  • Santa Ana volcano and Cerro Verde

    Paved up to Cerro Verde, but the last stretch is steep with tight switchbacks, and the park roads have loose gravel.

  • Lake Coatepeque

    The lake-rim roads are narrow and steep. An SUV or 4x4 pickup is the recommendation.

  • La Palma and El Pital

    The final climb to El Pital — the highest point in the country, at 2,730 m — is 4x4 territory.

  • Eastern beaches — Las Flores, El Cuco

    The new highway is excellent, but several beach access roads are dirt and sand.

  • Ruta de las Flores

    A winding mountain road with afternoon fog and cobblestones in the villages: an SUV or pickup is more comfortable.

  • Surfboards and beach gear

    A pickup bed or an SUV carries boards and gear to El Tunco, El Zonte or El Sunzal.

The CA-2 coastal highway to El Tunco and El Zonte, and all of San Salvador, are paved. If you are not climbing volcanoes, a sedan from $38/day costs less.

No. Lubbi works with zero deposit and no hold on your card. You arrange payment directly with the team on WhatsApp.

Where do you hand over the 4x4?

At El Salvador International Airport (SAL) or in San Salvador, and you can return it at either at no extra charge. Delivery and return are included.

Can I drive with my foreign licence?

Yes. As a tourist, your foreign driver’s licence is valid for up to 90 days. Bring your passport and licence to the handover.
